About Little Way Home Care
Committed to care with compassion, dignity, and love.
Founded by Tess and Doug Kurz, Little Way Home Care is a family-led agency dedicated to providing compassionate, dependable care you can trust.
Meet the Founders
As founders, Tess and Doug remain personally involved in shaping the care experience, ensuring every family receives compassionate, dependable support.
Tess Kurz
Co-Founder
Tess has been inspired by St. Thérèse of Lisieux since childhood. She admired her humility, simplicity, and her way of finding holiness in small everyday acts of love. That spirit continues to shape how Tess cares for others today.
With a big heart and a contagious smile, Tess built her career as a physical therapist assistant in skilled nursing and outpatient care, known for her blend of skill, encouragement, and compassion. After stepping away to raise her three daughters, Tess returned to her calling with renewed purpose as President and co-founder of Little Way Home Care.
For Tess, caregiving is not simply a profession. It is a vocation. She founded Little Way Home Care to serve families with excellence and to create a place where caregivers feel valued and proud of the work they do.
Doug Kurz
Co-Founder
Doug’s path to co-founding Little Way Home Care has always centered on serving others. From volunteering in assisted living to working as a caregiver, EMT, and physical therapist, his entire career reflects a life of service.
After completing his residency and fellowship in physical therapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Doug moved to Annapolis to serve as a physical therapist at the U.S. Naval Academy.
His vision for Little Way Home Care took root while supporting his father through the challenges of home care. He witnessed the deep impact of compassionate caregivers on families, inspiring him to build an agency grounded in dignity, education, and excellence.
Doug now co-leads Little Way Home Care with the goal of serving clients, caregivers, and families with the same dedication and love that guided his own.
Our Inspiration
Little Way Home Care was founded in the spirit of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, who lived by her “Little Way” of doing small deeds with great love.
We have learned that the heart of home care is not found in grand gestures, but in small, intentional acts of love. It is in the caregiver who looks up new recipes for Mom’s vegan diet, brings a book from home knowing Dad will enjoy it, reads up on a topic Mom loves to talk about, or finds the music that sparks memories for Grandma with dementia and sings along together.
These thoughtful moments help someone feel truly cared for and can meaningfully improve their quality of life.
Our Story
Tess and Doug Kurz are the husband and wife team behind Little Way Home Care. As healthcare providers in physical therapy, they understand how to care for others, communicate clearly, train caregivers well, and lead with empathy and integrity.
Their experience caring for family members at home, both personally and professionally, strengthened their vision for Little Way Home Care. They understand the worries families face — safety in the shower, preparing meals, managing medications, preventing falls, and the emotional strain of caring for a loved one.
Through these experiences, Tess and Doug found their vocation: to serve others to the greatest extent possible, to bring dignity and joy to their lives, and to support the caregivers who make it possible. What makes Little Way Home Care unique is the blend of clinical expertise and firsthand family caregiving experience.
They are part of this community, and it is their honor to care for others and to build a team that provides the kind of care they would want for their own family.
What this means for your family.
From the very first phone call, we listen with care, help you find the right services, and gently take on the parts of the burden you are ready to share. Our goal is to bring support, clear communication, and peace of mind during a time that can feel stressful or uncertain.
After our first call, we schedule a complimentary visit from a client service coordinator and registered nurse to better understand your needs and determine the level of support that will help your family feel at ease. We then match you with care professionals who best fit your situation and remain committed to open communication, ongoing education, and responsiveness to your needs.
